A hard-fought match until the hosts edged them in the last end
Cortina Bay, ITA- This was the last match of Round Robin play as team USA’s Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin took on the host nation, Italy, and the team of Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner. Both sides were battling hard throughout the eight ends of regulation, but at the end, Italy secured the second seed as they defeated the USA by a final score of seven to six.
Overview
These two teams will meet each other in the Semi-Finals but their seeding needs to be decided in this final match. While both sides were tied at two, earning a point through four ends, it was Amos Mosaner who delivered a big blow in the fifth end by creating a huge removal by using his hammer to remove both USA Stones and earning a four-point end for the four-point lead.
In the next two ends, the Cory’s scored two points in the sixth end, and the seventh end to make the eighth end the deciding factor. On the fifth stone for the USA, they just overshot the button, allowing for Sweden to use the Hammer and take the final point of the match. While officially Italy has the second seed and the USA has the third seed, this was just the warm up. They will do it again for real in the Semi-Finals later in the evening.
