Rangers trade Artemi Panarin to Los Angeles before Olympic Roster Freeze

Panarin heads to Hollywood

New York, NY- The New York Rangers have officially traded Artemi Panarin to the Los Angeles Kings, and in return, they have acquired from the Kings forward prospect Liam Greentree and a conditional 2026 third-round pick just before the NHL Roster freeze during the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan/Cortina, Italy.

Panarin’s Rangers stats and contract

Panarin on his final year of a seven-year contract after signing as a free agent from the Columbus Blue Jackets, skated in 482 games, scored 205 goals, and earned 402 assists for 607 points. The 34-year-old will have half of his salary paid by the Rangers, and the Kings will give him a two year extentsion as it was reported.

Details of the Rangers return

Liam Greentree was a 2024 1st Round selection in the NHL Draft, and along with the Conditional third-round pick in the upcoming 2026 NHL Draft, it could become a second-round pick if the Kings win a playoff round, and a Conditional 2028 4th round pick.

The overall situation of the trade

Panarin has been a key piece of the Rangers’ offense since 2019, was sidelined for “roster management” before the trade. This move allows the Rangers to begin a “retool” by gathering assets while providing the Kings with an elite playmaker to strengthen their playoff position. Panarin has been a consistent leading scorer for the Rangers and brings significant talent to the Kings as they make a postseason push.
