Army Women’s Tennis Rallies Past Stony Brook with Singles Surge

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point women’s tennis didn’t get the start it wanted, but it finished exactly the way it needed to.

After dropping the doubles point, the Black Knights responded with a decisive run in singles, earning a comeback win over Stony Brook at the Lobo Corral to complete a weekend sweep. Army went 3–0 on the weekend — 4–0 vs. LIU, 4–1 vs. UConn, and 4–3 vs. Stony Brook — improving to 6–2 overall and a perfect 6–0 at home.

Doubles: Stony Brook Strikes First

Stony Brook grabbed early momentum by taking all three doubles matches.

• No. 1: Emily Ruckno and Olivia Mellynchuk fell 6–3
• No. 2: Madison Smith and Allison Harris fell 6–4
• No. 3: Ylan Duong and Stacey Samonte fell 6–3

Down 1–0, Army’s margin for error tightened immediately.

Singles: Army Flips the Match

Army answered with four singles wins, turning the match on its head.

Sy’s Statement Win Seals It

Senior Emma Sy (Port Washington, N.Y.) delivered the moment that mattered most.

In a match that swung on composure and closing strength, Sy battled through three sets at No. 1, resetting after a second-set dip and finishing the job in the third to secure the team victory.

Duong Wins the Tiebreak Battle

At No. 2, Ylan Duong handled the pressure moments, taking a first-set tiebreak and closing in two.

Samonte Makes It Look Simple

Stacey Samonte delivered the cleanest result of the day, rolling in straight sets.

Alexandra Oshidar provided another two-set win, fighting through a tight first set before pulling away.

The Difference

The doubles point went Stony Brook’s way, but Army’s response in singles was the story: composure at the top, efficiency in the middle, and steady closing strength at the bottom.
