Supporting those who are fighting Cancer throughout College Baseketball
Kansas City, MO- From January 26th to February 1st, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) will be in Suits and Sneakers the entire week as all College Basketball head coaches will be supporting those fighting against Cancer along with the American Cancer Society. It will also unite all coaches at every level of Basketball across the country to advance the American Cancer Society’s pledge to rid everyone of this dreaded issue.
What the basketball coaches will wear
Throughout the entire week, all basketball coaches will wear Sneakers on the sidelines with their suits while having Coaches for Cancer patches and lapel pins signifying the event and the cause. Programs that will participate will also deliver messaging about the life-saving significance of regular cancer screening, along with impactful visuals like tributes to those who are currently fighting this disease. Some will have slogans on why they continue to fight against cancer.
How it all got started
Coaches for Cancer was launched in 1993 by former Missouri coach Norm Stewart. Since then, he has raised over $179 Million to support the message of the American Cancer Society to continue screening, research, and patient support programs like Hope Lodge and the road to recovery.
“Suits And Sneakers Week and the broader Coaches vs. Cancer program are bigger than basketball,” said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. “Cancer impacts us all, and coaches are privileged during this signature week to put our collective passion for impacting the fight against the disease into action.”
“Suits And Sneakers Week is a powerful reminder that progress against cancer happens when people come together with purpose,” said Shane Jacobson, CEO of the American Cancer Society and American Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN). “When coaches, athletes, and communities unite around prevention, screening, and support, we move closer to a future where we can end cancer as we know it, for everyone.”
