The long wait is finally over; construction will happen in Everett.
Boston, MA- On the afternoon of New Year’s Eve, the City of Boston, along with its neighbors to the north over the Mystic River in Everett and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer, has finally agreed to tear down the former Mystic Generating Station Power Plant and build a brand new state-of-the-art soccer-specific stadium. This long and painful wait is finally over, and all the supporters can now celebrate the beginning of the demolition that will hopefully start very soon.
A Statement from the Kraft Group
The Kraft Group has reached agreements with the cities of Everett and Boston, marking an important milestone in our effort to transform a long‑neglected industrial site along the Mystic River into a vibrant, publicly accessible waterfront destination and the future home of the New England Revolution. These agreements reflect years of collaboration with city leaders and community stakeholders to ensure the project delivers meaningful, lasting benefits for residents while addressing transportation, environmental, and municipal impacts. We are especially grateful for Mayor Carlo DeMaria’s leadership and vision. At its core, this is an investment in Everett and its future. In addition, it provides improved access and an enhanced neighborhood experience by removing a physical and visual barrier for the residents of Charlestown, and we appreciate Mayor Michelle Wu and her team’s partnership.
Under the agreements, we will undertake significant environmental remediation and demolition of the long‑vacant power plant, invest in extensive traffic and transportation improvements, and deliver substantial community benefits, including millions of dollars towards infrastructure improvements. The project will open the waterfront with the creation of a new public park, strengthen pedestrian and bicycle connectivity, and enhance access to public transit. We will also support Everett Public Schools, expand local employment opportunities, and make the stadium and waterfront park available for community and school events. Our shared commitment to Everett and Boston residents includes prioritizing local hiring, youth soccer clinics, and community programming. This project is intended to be a true neighborhood asset.
These agreements demonstrate the power of public‑private partnerships to deliver transformational outcomes. We look forward to continued collaboration with Everett, Boston, and the community as the project advances through local and state review and as we take the many next steps necessary to bring this vision to life.
Surrounding area and public transportation
When the new stadium has finally been constructed, there will be several ways to get to the new stadium in Everett. You can take the MBTA’s Orange Line north to Sullivan Square, then walk toward Alfred Street at Main Street Stop for Buses 105 or 109 going north to the Broadway at Dexter Street Stop. If you are coming from the Purple commuter railroad, Newburyport/Rockport Line at the Chelsea Station. Take Bus #112 to the Broadway at Norwood Street stop and transfer to the #109 going south.
Across from the former power plant site to the west is the Encore Boston Harbor Hotel and Casino with restaurants and shops, owned and operated by the Wynn Resorts company.
Personal Thoughts
For a very long time, I have been advocating that the number one need to make American Soccer grow within the country for the continued betterment of the game is stadium infrastructure. The other mechanisms to add on will come at a later time, but we needed to get out of the large NFL stadiums that have hampered the atmosphere for the game in all of our professional divisions.
When New York City FC finishes building Etihad Park in Queens, New York, Freedom Park will open next year for Inter Miami, the new Everett Stadium will be the 24th soccer-specific stadium constructed for Major League Soccer, the US Men’s and Women’s National Teams, and the Revolution can host U.S. Open Cup games when they get lucky with the draw.
This was a great ending for Revolution supporters to end the 2025 calendar year, and a future they can now dream about to start 2026 and beyond. I hope all the soccer supporters will celebrate and fill the new home once construction has come to an end.
