WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point men’s basketball (4-7) returned to the win column in historic fashion on Sunday afternoon, setting two program records in a dominant 111-53 victory over Gallaudet University (0-7, 0-2 United East) at Christl Arena.
The Black Knights’ 111 points marked the most in a regulation game in program history, surpassing the previous non-overtime record. Army’s all-time single-game scoring mark remains 116 points, set in a double-overtime victory over Bucknell last season.
Army also shattered the program record for three-pointers made in a single game, draining 20 triples on 42 attempts (47.6 percent). The previous record of 18 three-pointers was set against Mount St. Mary’s on Nov. 12, 2024.
McCarthy Matches Career High, Five Reach Double Figures
Kevin McCarthy led Army with 18 points on 7-for-9 shooting, including 4-for-5 from beyond the arc, matching his career high. Ryan Curry added 12 points on four three-pointers while dishing a team-high eight assists and grabbing five rebounds.
Jacen Holloway contributed 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists in just 15 minutes. Jackson Furman scored 11 points on three triples, and Joshua Eli rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting at the free-throw line.
All 14 Black Knights who entered the game contributed to the scoring column, with the bench accounting for 58 points.

Ball Movement Fuels Offensive Explosion
The Black Knights’ offensive efficiency was no accident. Sophomore guard Kevin McCarthy emphasized the team’s focus on ball movement and shot selection.
“Our goal going into the game was high assist game, not a lot of turnovers,” McCarthy said. “So we tried to really move the ball and get the best look possible on offense. I feel like that helped our shooting percentage and ability to make threes.”
The strategy paid dividends. The Black Knights finished with 30 assists on 42 made field goals, committed just 16 turnovers, and shot 53.2 percent from the field while draining 47.6 percent of their three-point attempts.
Army Dominates From Opening Tip
Army seized control from the opening possession, as Curry drained a three-pointer on the Black Knights’ first trip down the floor. Jorn Everson quickly added a transition layup off a feed from McCarthy, and Curry buried another three off an Everson steal to push the lead to 8-0 less than two minutes into the game.
Gallaudet called a timeout, but Army’s defensive pressure continued to dictate the pace. Holloway got rolling midway through the opening stretch, knocking down a jumper, finishing a fast-break layup, and burying a three to extend the margin. McCarthy joined the scoring run with a transition three assisted by Curry as Army pushed the lead to 18-2.
Even after a wave of substitutions, Army continued generating open looks through offensive rebounds. Everson and Curry connected again in transition for a layup that made it 20-4, and Jackson Mayo added a three-pointer three minutes later to push the lead back to double digits.
Black Knights Build 46-27 Halftime Lead
Holloway re-entered midway through the first half and wasted no time, finishing at the rim to reach 10 first-half points. Tate Laczkowski and Furman added fast-break layups, while Curry’s third three of the half stretched the lead to 35-20 inside the five-minute mark.
Mayo responded to a Gallaudet three with another triple of his own, and moments later, Everson hammered home a dunk on the break off a feed from Mayo to push Army to 40 points. McCarthy added another layup off a baseline drive, and Mayo hit his third three of the period to give Army a 45-25 lead entering the final minute.
Army closed the half with a defensive stop and a free throw from Eli, taking a commanding 46-27 lead into intermission. The Black Knights shot 45.0 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from three in the opening 20 minutes, while holding Gallaudet to 35.3 percent shooting.

Second-Half Explosion Breaks Game Open
Army opened the second half by reloading its starting unit and quickly reestablished control. Everson jumped a passing lane for a steal, and McCarthy buried a three on the ensuing possession. Moments later, McCarthy scored again at the rim to extend the lead, and Holloway turned a steal into a fast-break assist for Everson to make it 53-27.
McCarthy added another three, pushing the lead past the 25-point mark. Laczkowski contributed a transition layup off a feed from Holloway, and after another stop, Holloway finished inside to stretch the margin to 60-32. Curry then drilled a deep three, followed by a Furman three, as the Black Knights quickly pushed the advantage past 30.
Record-Breaking Three-Point Barrage
The three-point barrage continued throughout the second half. McCarthy hit his fifth three of the afternoon to make it 71-36, and Jaxson Bell joined the party with a wing three to push the margin to 76-39.
Furman knocked down another deep three, and Bell buried his third three of the half to give Army 98 points with five minutes left. The Black Knights reached the century mark when Dylan Murans tipped in an offensive rebound, and Jahaan Green splashed a transition three on the next possession to make it 103-49.
Dylan Benner drilled a three from the left wing, and Green followed with a putback and a free throw to push Army past 110 points. Green capped the defensive effort by blocking Gallaudet’s last-second three-point attempt as Army closed out the dominant 111-53 victory.
Valuable Experience for Younger Players
The lopsided victory allowed head coach Josh Kiewik to empty his bench and provide valuable playing time for the entire roster.
“Obviously, everybody got a chance to be on the court,” McCarthy noted. “It doesn’t happen to get games like this on the schedule often, so it’s nice when everybody can get out there and experience being out there.”
The sophomore guard emphasized the long-term benefits of the extended rotation.
“It definitely helps our younger guys get experience on the court, playing some legit minutes,” McCarthy said. “And then it helps in the future as well for when we get older and more guys get more minutes. The more minutes you get, the more experience you have, the better off they’ll be.”
Offensive Efficiency and Defensive Dominance
Army shot 53.2 percent from the field (42-for-79) and 47.6 percent from three-point range (20-for-42), while holding Gallaudet to just 35.9 percent shooting (23-for-64) and 21.7 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-23).
The Black Knights dominated the glass with 59 total rebounds, including 25 on the offensive end, which led to 21 second-chance points. Army also excelled in ball movement, finishing with 30 assists on 42 made baskets.
The defense forced 16 turnovers and converted them into 26 points, while Army scored 42 points in the paint and added 24 fast-break points. The bench contributed 58 points, showcasing the team’s depth.

Why McCarthy Chose West Point
For McCarthy, the decision to attend West Point was influenced by both the institution’s academic reputation and head coach Josh Kiewik’s recruiting approach.
“Great education, the way it sets you up for the future,” McCarthy said. “And then just Coach Kiewik, the way he recruited me, showed that he really wanted me, showed that he was gonna do things the right way. I just decided the way he recruited me made this place the place I wanted to come to.”
