Back and forth game until a blast from the near point ended it
Salt Lake City, UT- The New York Rangers went from Denver to Salt Lake City to finish off their three-game Rocky Mountain Roadtrip and tried to get a win. It was a hard-fought game between the two teams, as they traded chances, and both goalies were up to the task. After the game was over, the Mammouth got the victory as the final score was three to two.
Tapped in while uncovered
Utah got on the board first when the Mammoth attacked the net inside the Rangers’ zone. After Nate Schmidt took the shot from the far faceoff circle, Jonathan Quick made the save, but the puck was loose as it bounced around and then rolled away from him, landing at the post. J.J. Petreka quickly got his stick on the puck and pushed it completely over the line at 10:08 of the first period
A blast was deflected in
The Rangers attacked the Mammouth’s zone trying to tie the game. Mika Zibanejad put the puck off the far boards and toward Adam Fox at the far point. Fox ripped a hard shot toward the net, but Vladislav Gavrikov deflected it inside the far faceoff circle and into the net at 15:19 of the first period.
Breakaway was spilled in the net
A big moment came for the Rangers as they took the lead when Vincent Trocheck sprung Artemi Panarin into a breakaway. Panarin skated hard down the slot, took the shot, and it was originally saved, but when Vejmelka slid into the net backwards and tried to hold on to the puck, it spilled out of his gear and rolled into the back of the net for the lead at 8:07 of the second period
It wasn’t originally, but later on it did
There was confusion at the Rangers’ net when the Mammouth was attempting to score a goal. The Rangers controlled the puck at the far corner, but lost it when Kailer Yamamoto intercepted the puck and attacked the net. He lost it, but Clayton Keller at the far post took it and roofed it in.
He shot it so hard that it looked like the puck hit the bottom of the crossbar and out. After a couple more seconds of play, the horn inside the Delta Center sounded, indicating a review from Toronto, and the goal was going to count. The replay showed the puck did go inside the net and hit the back bar, then out at 11:15 of the second period.
Blast from the point
The Mammouth were inside the Rangers’ zone, continuing to attack the net and finding that go-ahead goal. After two to three shots on Jonathan Quick, the puck went back to the near point as Nick DeSimone skated into the puck and blasted it one time through the pads of Quick and into the back of the net at 7:32 of the third period.
Swept in the Rocky Mountains
The Rangers went to Vegas, Denver, and Salt Lake City to try and earn as many points as possible. While they competed strongly, they still made a few mistakes against the Avalanche, and were a bit unlucky against the Mammouth. While they lost J.T. Miller to an upper-body injury, and he is day-to-day, this Rangers team is now on a four-game losing streak.
The hope is that when they return to Madison Square Garden, they can try to break this losing streak and get back to the positive side of the ledger. Their next game is on Monday Night, November 24th, against the St. Louis Blues.
