Smith Extends Double-Digit Scoring Streak to Six Games; Black Knights Shoot Season-Best 52.6%, Hold Red Flash to 28.3% in Dominant Performance
LORETTO, Pa. – The Army West Point women’s basketball team led for over 39 minutes en route to an 82-50 road victory over Saint Francis on Friday afternoon at DeGol Arena in front of 375 fans.
Army (5-1) delivered its best shooting performance of the season and completely shut down Saint Francis (0-6) on the defensive end of the court. The Black Knights’ 52.6% shooting clip was their best of the season and their second consecutive game shooting 50% or better.
Defensively, Army held Saint Francis to 28.3% shooting—the worst shooting percentage by an Army opponent this season and the worst since Mt. St. Mary (NY) shot 23.3% on Dec. 29, 2024.
Kya Smith led Army with 15 points and nine rebounds, extending her double-digit scoring streak to six games to open the season. Camryn Tade added 14 points, while Reese Ericson (11 points, six assists) and Taylor Wilson (11 points, five rebounds) also reached double figures.
“Happy to be in a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. Seventeen to eleven, that’s huge,” Army head coach Katie Kuester said. “I thought we had really even scoring… That’s how we want to operate. That’s our brand of Army West Point women’s basketball. We’re selfless, we share the basketball, 17 assists: super proud of them for that.”
First Quarter: Black Knights Seize Control with 13-0 Run
Army got off to a strong start in the first quarter and never looked back. The Black Knights led 11-7 right before the first media timeout and proceeded to go on a 13-0 run that stretched the final 5:36 of the first quarter and 2:50 of the second.
The run began with a Tade layup at 5:36, followed by a steal and transition bucket from Brooke Wilson at 6:32. Army’s defense forced five consecutive Saint Francis turnovers during the stretch, and the Black Knights capitalized with efficient offense.
Stella Chartrand added a layup at 2:28, and Smith capped the run with a layup at 0:21 to give Army an 18-7 lead after the opening quarter.
Army’s ferocious defense held the Red Flash to 3-for-12 (25%) shooting from the field in the first quarter, including just 1-for-2 from three-point range. The Black Knights forced seven turnovers and scored seven points off those miscues.

Second Quarter: Balanced Offense Extends Lead to 17 at Halftime
The second quarter continued to see Army play efficient offense, as the Black Knights went 7-for-11 (63.6%) from the field and 3-for-5 (60%) from three in the period.
Smith got six points in the quarter, including a pair of free throws and two layups in the paint. Ericson knocked down a three-pointer at 9:08 to push the lead to 23-7, and Reganne Reardon added a jumper at 9:45 to give Army a 20-7 advantage.
Chartrand continued her strong performance with a three-pointer at 4:53, and Wilson added a jumper at 4:19 to extend the lead to 34-14.
Going into the halftime break, Army was in complete control, leading 38-21. The 17-point lead was the largest at halftime for Army this season.
The Black Knights shot 51.7% (15-for-29) from the field in the first half, while limiting Saint Francis to 32.1% (9-for-28). Smith had 10 of her 15 points in the opening 20 minutes, while Ericson and Chartrand each had six.
“It’s been a long stretch of travel, so I really am grateful to come out of this six-game stretch at 5-1,” Kuester said.

Third Quarter: Tade Erupts for Nine Points, Army Leads by 21
The third quarter was the closest frame of the afternoon, as Army only outscored Saint Francis 23-19. It was the only quarter that the Red Flash shot 40% or better, finishing at 45.5% (5-for-11) from the field.
However, it was also the highest-scoring quarter for Army, who knocked down 8-for-12 (66.7%) shots, including 5-for-8 (62.5%) from three-point range.
Tade erupted for nine points in the period, including a stretch in which she scored seven straight points. She opened the quarter with a fastbreak layup at 7:59, then added another layup at 7:16 and a three-pointer at 6:43 to give Army a 47-26 lead.
Wilson knocked down a three-pointer at 5:02, and Ericson added another at 2:36 to push the lead to 56-36.
Chartrand continued her career performance with a three-pointer at 3:18, and Audrey Annee added a three at 1:31 to give Army a 59-38 advantage.
Army led 61-40 heading into the final quarter, with the Black Knights shooting 52.9% (18-for-34) from the field and 47.4% (9-for-19) from three through three quarters.
Fourth Quarter: Dominant Defense Seals 32-Point Victory
The final 10 minutes saw Army completely dominate on defense, holding Saint Francis to 1-for-14 (7.1%) from the field and 1-for-9 (11.1%) from three-point range.
Reardon had a big offensive quarter, leading the team with six points on 3-for-3 free-throw shooting and a layup at 1:08. Wilson added a layup at 9:18, and Ericson scored on a layup at 7:06 to push the lead to 65-41.
Wilson knocked down a jumper at 6:15 and converted the free throw to complete the three-point play, extending the lead to 68-41.
Smith added four points in the final quarter, including a three-point play at 3:24 and a layup at 2:55 to give Army a 76-45 lead.
Freshman Jane Preston scored her first collegiate basket in the final minute, finishing a layup at 0:18 to put the icing on the cake for Army, who now has five wins before the end of November.
The Black Knights outscored Saint Francis 21-10 in the fourth quarter to seal the 82-50 victory.
Black Knight Standout Performances
Kya Smith led Army with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting, adding nine rebounds and three assists. She has now scored in double digits in every game this season, extending her streak to six games.
Camryn Tade scored 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting, including 1-for-2 from three and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line. She added four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks in 27 minutes.
Reese Ericson contributed 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-6 from three-point range. She led the team with six assists while adding two rebounds and two steals.
Taylor Wilson scored 11 points on 5-for-10 shooting, adding five rebounds in 26 minutes.
Stella Chartrand had a career-high nine points on 3-for-5 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. She added two rebounds in 17 minutes.
Reganne Reardon scored eight points while grabbing seven rebounds. Reardon had gone scoreless in the previous two games and responded with an efficient performance.
Brooke Wilson contributed six points, six rebounds, and five assists in 26 minutes, providing strong all-around play.
Soleil Montrose added three points, four rebounds, and strong defensive minutes off the bench.
Audrey Annee chipped in three points, including a three-pointer in the third quarter.
Jane Preston scored her first collegiate basket with a layup in the final minute, capping a memorable performance for the freshman.
