Huskies Dominate Catamounts 4-0 Behind Three-Goal Performance, Chan’s 18 Saves
STORRS, CT – Junior forward Julia Pellerin recorded her second career hat trick—and first in a UConn uniform—as No. 9 UConn women’s hockey blanked Vermont 4-0 on Friday night at the Toscano Family Ice Forum.
Pellerin’s three-goal performance, combined with sophomore goaltender Tia Chan’s 18-save shutout, propelled the Huskies to 9-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in Hockey East play. Vermont fell to 5-8-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference action.
The 486 fans in attendance witnessed a dominant UConn performance that saw the Huskies outshoot the Catamounts 38-18 and convert on two of three power-play opportunities.
First Period: Pellerin Opens Scoring on Power Play
Vermont won the opening faceoff and tested UConn’s defense early, but the Huskies responded with sustained offensive pressure. At 7:46, Vermont’s Josie Hemp was called for tripping, giving UConn its first power-play opportunity of the night.
Just 21 seconds into the man advantage, Pellerin capitalized on a brilliant no-look pass from junior forward Livvy Dewar at the back post, giving UConn a 1-0 lead at 8:07.
The Huskies maintained control throughout the period, outshooting Vermont 17-8 and taking their one-goal advantage into the first intermission.
Second Period: Huskies Break It Open
UConn extended its lead at 8:41 when Pellerin netted her second goal of the night—her fourth of the season—on an even-strength tally assisted by sophomore forward Emma Eryou.
Less than three minutes later, senior forward Brooke Campbell made it 3-0 at 11:26, redirecting a shot in front of the net with assists from freshman forward True Thompson and senior forward Kyla Josifovic.
Pellerin completed her hat trick spectacularly at 16:53, firing a power-play goal from a near-impossible angle that went bar down. Senior defenseman Claire Murdoch earned the assist on the play.
“Julia was unstoppable tonight,” UConn head coach Chris MacKenzie said after the game. “Her ability to finish in tight spaces and her hockey IQ were on full display. That third goal was something special.”
The Huskies dominated the second period, outshooting Vermont 13-3 and taking a commanding 4-0 lead into the final frame.

Third Period: Chan Seals the Shutout
Despite multiple shot attempts from both teams in the scoreless third period, neither side found the back of the net. Chan stood tall in goal, turning away all seven Vermont shots in the final 20 minutes to secure her second shutout of the season.
UConn killed off two Vermont power plays in the third period, including a critical penalty kill midway through the frame.
“Tia was rock solid all night,” MacKenzie said. “She made the saves she needed to make and gave our team confidence to play our game.”
