WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point men’s basketball (1-3) suffered its third consecutive defeat on Saturday afternoon, falling 75-52 to the Harvard University Crimson (3-1) at Christl Arena in a game that saw the Black Knights outplayed from start to finish.
The loss extended Army’s losing streak to three games and dropped the Black Knights’ all-time series lead over Harvard to 16-10. The Crimson have now won two straight in the series, with Army’s last victory coming on November 23, 2009, a 56-53 triumph inside Christl Arena.
Harvard dominated the contest from the opening tip, shooting 52.1% from the field and 81.8% from the free-throw line while holding Army to just 37.7% shooting and 20% from beyond the arc. The Crimson’s balanced attack featured four players in double figures, led by Thomas Batties II’s 17 points and Robert Hinton’s 16-point, six-rebound performance.
Freshman Furman Held in Check
Perhaps the most concerning development for Army was the containment of freshman sensation Jackson Furman, who was held to just six points for the first time this season. Furman, who had scored in double digits in every game before Saturday’s contest, was limited to just 15 minutes of action after Harvard got him into early foul trouble.
The Crimson’s defensive strategy focused on neutralizing Furman’s perimeter shooting, keeping him off the court in large stretches, and disrupting the Black Knights’ offensive rhythm. Furman finished 2-for-4 from three-point range but was unable to establish the consistent scoring presence that had defined his early-season success.
Curry and Bell Lead Scoring Effort
Despite the lopsided defeat, Army received solid individual performances from Ryan Curry and Jaxson Bell, who each tallied 11 points to pace the Black Knights’ scoring.
Curry finished 4-for-10 from the field, connecting on three three-pointers, and added four rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes. The guard provided Army’s only consistent offensive threat from the perimeter, hitting timely shots to keep the Black Knights within striking distance in the first half.
Bell delivered a career-best performance, scoring 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting from the free-throw line in 16 minutes off the bench. The sophomore added one rebound and two steals, providing a spark that Army desperately needed but couldn’t sustain.

First Half: Army Hangs Close Before Halftime Deficit
The Black Knights struggled out of the gate, taking over a minute to score before Jorn Everson got Army on the board. After Jacen Holloway’s layup tied the game at 4-4, Harvard responded with a quick 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead into the first media timeout.
Army battled back over the next four minutes, outscoring the Crimson 10-8 to narrow the deficit to 17-14. Furman led the charge with six points off the bench, while Curry and Bell added two points each during the stretch.
The Black Knights continued to chip away at Harvard’s lead, pulling within one point at 20-21 with 7:33 remaining in the half. Curry connected on a three-pointer, Tate Laczkowski scored his first points of the game on a pass from Holloway, and Holloway added a free throw to keep Army within striking distance.
However, Harvard regained control after the second media timeout, extending its lead to 29-25. The Crimson closed the half on a 7-6 run to take a 36-31 advantage into the locker room, with Everson scoring four of Army’s final six points and Joshua Eli adding two off the bench.

Second Half: Harvard Pulls Away
Army opened the second half with promise, as Curry drained a deep three-pointer as the shot clock expired and Laczkowski added a layup off a Curry assist to cut the deficit to 36-34.
But Harvard quickly reasserted control, scoring eight points over the next four minutes to build a 44-36 lead with 16:09 remaining. The Crimson’s offensive efficiency and Army’s continued shooting struggles proved to be a devastating combination.

Crimson 11-2 Run
Over the next four minutes, Holloway added four points for the Black Knights. However, Harvard countered with seven more to extend its lead to 51-40 with 11:56 on the clock. The Crimson then delivered the knockout blow with an 11-2 run, with Laczkowski scoring Army’s only basket during the stretch. Harvard’s 62-42 lead with eight minutes remaining effectively ended any hopes of an Army comeback.
The two teams exchanged buckets over the next four minutes, with Bell scoring six points to reach his career-high total. Harvard added seven more points to push the lead to 69-48 with 4:23 remaining.
In the final four minutes, freshmen Dillon Watt and Jahaan Green provided the only bright spots for Army. They added just two points each. Harvard cruised to the 75-52 final, dominating the second half 39-21 and never allowing Army to mount a serious threat.
Statistical Breakdown
Army’s offensive struggles were evident across the board. The Black Knights shot just 37.7% from the field (20-for-53) and an abysmal 20% from three-point range (5-for-25). Army’s second-half shooting was particularly concerning. The team connected on just 29.17% of field goal attempts and 10% from beyond the arc.
The Black Knights also struggled from the free-throw line, making only 7 of 12 attempts for 58.3%. Army’s first-half free-throw shooting was especially poor at 25%, though the team improved to 75% in the second half.
Harvard, by contrast, shot 52.1% from the field, including 57.14% in the second half. They also connected on 81.8% of free throws. The Crimson’s efficiency from the charity stripe (18-for-22) proved critical, as Harvard capitalized on Army’s 19 personal fouls.
The Black Knights grabbed 31 total rebounds, including 11 offensive boards, but managed only nine second-chance points. The Black Knights totaled 11 assists, six steals, and zero blocks while committing 16 turnovers. Harvard forced those turnovers into 22 points, a decisive advantage in the game.
The Black Knights scored 30 points in the paint and added six fast-break points. Unfortunatly, received just 23 bench points despite rotating 16 players into the game. Harvard’s bench contributed only 13 points, but the Crimson’s starters provided more than enough production to secure the comfortable victory.

The Black Knights (1-3) hit the road for the second time this season, traveling upstate to Ithaca, New York.They’ll face the Cornell University Big Red on Tuesday, November 18. Army looks to snap its three-game losing streak and find offensive consistency again. Against a Cornell team that dominated the Black Knights 103-84 in their last meeting on December 8, 2024, inside Christl Arena.
The game at Newman Arena will tip off at 8 p.m. ET and will stream live on ESPN+. Army will need to rediscover its shooting touch, particularly from three-point range. Also need to find ways to keep key contributors like Furman on the court to have any chance of competing.
The Black Knights’ early-season struggles have exposed significant weaknesses in offensive execution and depth. With Patriot League play looming, Army must find answers quickly or risk falling further behind in the conference race.
