NEW YORK, N.Y. — The New York Sirens have solidified their leadership core for the upcoming 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season, naming forward Sarah Fillier and defender Jaime Bourbonnais as alternate captains on Friday.
The announcement completes the Sirens’ leadership trio, with Fillier and Bourbonnais joining captain Micah Zandee-Hart to form a group that embodies the organization’s core values of Respect, Loyalty, Family, and Excellence.
Elite Talent Meets Proven Leadership
Fillier, the reigning 2025 PWHL Rookie of the Year and first overall pick in the 2024 PWHL Entry Draft, has quickly established herself as one of the league’s premier players. The dynamic forward co-led the PWHL in points with 29 during the 2024-25 season and recently committed her future to New York by signing a two-year contract extension.
Bourbonnais, selected ninth overall in the 2023 draft, brings veteran experience to the leadership group. The steady defender has been a cornerstone of the Sirens’ blue line since the league’s inaugural season, recording 21 points in 56 career PWHL games while providing consistent two-way play and defensive reliability.
“One Voice, One Song”
General Manager Pascal Daoust emphasized the significance of the appointments and the qualities that set Fillier and Bourbonnais apart as leaders both on and off the ice.
“Choosing our two assistant captains is a powerful moment for our organization,” Daoust said. “It’s when a team identifies the people who will amplify our message, set our direction, and carry the one voice — the one song — we choose to live by every single day. There is absolutely no doubt that Sarah and Jaime are exceptional ambassadors of those values.”
Daoust highlighted the complementary nature of the two leaders and their impact beyond game days.
“They lead each in their own way, different yet completely complementary, not only when the lights are bright, but even more through the small, consistent actions behind the scenes that truly define who we are,” he added.

Captain’s Endorsement
Sirens captain Micah Zandee-Hart expressed enthusiasm about leading alongside Fillier and Bourbonnais, praising their leadership credentials and the strength they bring to the organization.
“I couldn’t be more excited for them to have letters on their jerseys,” Zandee-Hart said. “Jaime and Filly [Fillier] are synonymous with leadership and have already been instrumental leaders for this organization, as well as their previous teams. For them to be recognized for that, going into this season is important.”
Zandee-Hart emphasized the caliber of her alternate captains, noting that either could serve as a captain on any team in the league.
“These two could easily be wearing the ‘C’ instead of an ‘A’ on any team, so for me to have the privilege of leading alongside them elevates our group,” she said. “We are in good hands with them at the helm.”
Fan Fest Debut
Bourbonnais and Fillier will debut their new ‘A’ designations on their Sirens jerseys at Friday’s Fan Fest at Redd’s Biergarten in Newark, New Jersey. The event provides fans with an opportunity to meet the leadership group, teammates, and coaches ahead of the season opener.
Season Ahead
The New York Sirens will open their 2025-26 PWHL campaign on November 22 against the Ottawa Charge at TD Place in Ottawa. The matchup marks the beginning of what the organization hopes will be a successful season built on the foundation of strong leadership and team values.
