WEST POINT, N.Y. — The Army West Point women’s rugby team delivered a historic performance on Saturday afternoon, dismantling Navy 84-0 at the Anderson Rugby Complex in the most anticipated regular season matchup of the year—the Star Game, presented as part of the Army-Navy Star Series by USAA.
The dominant victory extended Army’s perfect all-time record against Navy to 20-0 and improved the Black Knights to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) play. The shutout marked Army’s fourth of the season and their largest margin of victory over the Midshipmen in series history.
First Half: Black Knights Establish Total Control
The Black Knights wasted no time asserting dominance, scoring a 5-point try just 2:25 into the match and converting the 2-point attempt to take a 7-0 lead. The Black Knights’ relentless defensive pressure forced an early Navy turnover, leading to another try at 10:11 that extended the lead to 12-0.
The floodgates opened from there.
By the 14:45 mark, the Black Knights had built a commanding 17-0 advantage after forcing yet another turnover and driving forward for a third try. The Black Knights’ defensive unit was suffocating, creating turnovers at will and immediately converting them into points.
At the 20-minute mark, Army led 22-0 after another converted try. The onslaught continued with tries at 22:20 (27-0), 26:19 (32-0), and just before the 32-minute mark (39-0), showcasing the Black Knights’ superior fitness, skill, and tactical execution.
The Black Knights closed the first half with two more tries in the final eight minutes, including a converted score that made it 46-0 at the 40-minute break. The halftime deficit was insurmountable, and the second half would only add to Navy’s misery.

Second Half: No Mercy from the Black Knights
The Black Knights picked up right where they left off, scoring another converted try in under three minutes to push the lead to 53-0. The scoring barrage continued with tries at regular intervals, each one a testament to Army’s depth, conditioning, and relentless attacking style.
By the 56:12 mark, the score had ballooned to 67-0 following another converted try. Army added another at the 60-minute mark to make it 74-0, and with under four minutes remaining, a spectacular pick-and-run try extended the lead to 81-0.
In the closing moments, Emily Steen of West Chester, Ohio, capped off the historic afternoon by successfully converting a penalty kick for three points, bringing the final score to 84-0 and living out a dream moment in front of the home crowd.

Eisenhart and Ball Lead Offensive Explosion
While individual try scorers were not fully detailed in the official match report, the performance was consistent with Army’s season-long dominance. Entering the game, the Black Knights had scored 252 points while allowing just 83—both marks ranking second in the NIRA.
Alissa Eisenhart, the most accomplished player in program history, continued her stellar season. She leads the Black Knights with 77 points, including a team-best 33 conversions, one try, and two penalty kicks. Eisenhart’s precision kicking was once again on display as Army converted multiple 2-point attempts throughout the match.
Cassidy Ball entered the game leading the team with eight tries on the season, while Gabby Woenker and Yesenia Morales each had six. Morales has been a two-way force for the Black Knights, leading the team with 49 tackles while ranking third with 30 points.
The Black Knights balanced attack has been a hallmark of their success this season, with six players recording 25 or more points.
Defensive Dominance Continues
The shutout was the Black Knights fourth of the season, adding to impressive defensive performances that included a 60-0 victory over Brown and a 69-0 win over Davenport. The Black Knights’ defensive unit has been relentless, forcing turnovers, stifling opposing attacks, and setting the tone for the team’s offensive success.
Morales has been the anchor of that defense, combining physicality with tactical awareness to lead the team in tackles. The Black Knights’ ability to create turnovers and immediately capitalize on them was the defining characteristic of Saturday’s victory.
Army Extends Star Series Lead
The victory earned the Black Knights a star in the Army-Navy Star Series Presented by USAA, improving the Black Knights’ overall lead to 4-2-1 over Navy and Air Force in the multi-sport competition. The star is awarded to the winning team in designated head-to-head matchups throughout the academic year, and Army’s women’s rugby team delivered in emphatic fashion.
Following the match, the Black Knights sang second—a tradition reserved for the victor in Army-Navy competitions and a moment that resonated deeply with players, coaches, and fans at the Anderson Rugby Complex.
All-Time Series Dominance
Army’s 84-0 victory extended the program’s perfect all-time record against Navy to 20-0, including a 3-0 mark in the Star Series Presented by USAA. Last season, the Black Knights recorded a 41-0 victory in Annapolis, with Stevie-Rae Ricklick, Chloe De Leon, Cecilia Ollis, and Morales all scoring tries.
Saturday’s 84-point margin eclipsed that performance and stands as the most dominant victory in the history of the rivalry.
Scouting Navy
Navy entered the match ranked sixth in the NIRA Power Rankings with a 3-2 conference record and 148 points scored in league play. Mia Young led the Midshipmen with 30 points and 10 conversions, while Caroline Shegogue was first on the team with five tries.
However, Navy had no answer for Army’s speed, physicality, and tactical execution. The Midshipmen were unable to generate sustained offensive pressure and were repeatedly forced into turnovers by the Black Knights’ aggressive defense.
Looking Ahead
With the regular season now complete, the Black Knights will turn its attention to the postseason. The Black Knights have built significant momentum with four consecutive victories, including dominant shutouts over Brown, Davenport, and now Navy.
The combination of offensive firepower and defensive excellence has positioned the team as a legitimate contender in the NIRA. The Black Knights’ ability to score from anywhere on the pitch, combined with their relentless defensive pressure, makes them a dangerous opponent heading into the playoffs.
The victory over Navy not only secured bragging rights for another year but also reinforced Army’s status as the premier program in the rivalry and one of the top teams in the nation.
