Canada is getting ready for their Under-17 side for the World Cup
Toronto, ON – Canada Soccer has announced its roster for the 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup as it prepares for a major tournament. They were drawn in Group K with some tough teams that will test their players very well. Head Coach Mike Vitulano will be leading his team to Qatar for this edition of the Under-17 World Cup, and hopes to see them at least getting out of the group.
Canada’s Opponents
Canada has been drawn with their three group opponents. They face Uganda first on Wednesday, November 5th, at 10:45 AM Eastern – 6:45 PM Local, then they face France on Saturday, November 8th, at 8:30 AM Eastern – 4:30 PM Local, and finally Chile on Tuesday, November 11th, at 7:30 AM Eastern – 3:30 PM Local Time.
“What I learned from these boys, and what I try to bring to the table, is that we’ll be ourselves. We’ll be. On the front foot, we’ll demonstrate who we want to be, and we’re not as scared of any of these opponents, but they are top opponents. I remember that Japan match, and man, those were some really good players.
And the England match, some of those players, several weeks before the camp, were playing in the UCL, so it’s quite an honor to play against these opponents. We need to respect them, but at the same time, man, our group has the ability, both physically, technically, and tactically. They’re intelligent players, and we’re looking forward to this challenge. And I think the boys feel like they can take on these top-tier opponents and really do well,” said Mike Vitulano
Uganda is making its debut in the Under-17 World Cup
Canada will face a debutant in the Under-17 World Cup as Uganda finally qualifies through the African Youth World Cup Qualifiers in the Under-17s. While many do watch matches and players from Europe and South America, this opponent will be very difficult to solve unless the coaching staff has a strong game plan.
“I’ve tried to scout what’s going on; I’ve watched their qualifying games, but in terms of preparation, they keep it very low key, so it’s hard to know a little bit more about them in preparation for that match. But you can expect a physical battle, some good, tricky players 1v1, so we’ll have to be really good in wide areas. They’re very direct, and they’re ready to play balls in behind, so we have to manage that really well.
So these are all things that we’re going to work on in preparation for Dubai, leading up to that Germany match, but also the Uganda match. So it’s hard to know exactly what to expect. We have some evidence through video, but we don’t have their full experience at a World Cup, so they can come in and have a great tournament.
It’s going to be a physical battle against them, you know, who’s going to be first to those first and second balls and who can take control of the match. And we’re certainly doing that by our tactical idea, and it’s how much we can do it and how much we can create momentum. And then, at the end of the day, it’s scoring. goals and keeping clean sheets. So yeah, hopefully it works out.”
Preperation
Canada will prepare for the tournament with a closed-door camp in Dubai starting on October 24th, and then they will face Germany in a closed-door friendly on October 30th. Then they will begin their U-17 World Cup in Doha on November 1st.
