Red Bulls lose their final match at home to the Queen City side of Ohio
Harrison, NJ- The New York Red Bulls came to Sports Illustrated Stadium for the final time this season as they hosted FC Cincinnati. Every chance they attacked the box, the Red Bulls were thwarted 100% by the bunkering defense or the woodwork. An early goal killed them and gave Cincinnati the full three points as the Red Bulls lost by a final score of a goal to nil.
Denkey’s Damage
Brenner was at the far side touchline, making a quick cross toward the center circle at midfield to Kevin Denkey. Denkey collected the ball and made a run down the middle of the park. From 28 yards out, he lashed a big shot that was unstoppable as the ball nailed the upper near 90 for the only goal of the match in the 12th minute.
Red Bulls Attacked With No Avail
All match long, the Red Bulls were able to get into prime positions inside the area and bring up the ball on the attack. Every time they had their chances, the shots were either blocked by the defenders or Evan Louro made the saves to keep the ball out of the net. This was a frustrating night for everyone.
“We obviously got discouraging news not being in the playoffs, and we didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but I think we played well in terms of playing and dominating the game. Unfortunately, they had one shot finds the back of the net. Overall, I think the guys fought hard and played well, but we just didn’t have the final product,” said Tim Parker
Double Post Shot
There was a moment when many thought the Red Bulls were finally going to break through and score to level the match. But unfortunately, they hit the near post twice. The first chance was flush on the post, then the rebound chance was deflected off the defender, then the post again. It did go out for a corner in the 83rd minute
Marcelo Morales Was Great
If some are looking for that replacement for John Tolkin, then the Chilean youth international left fullback could be that answer. He looked strong in defending the ball, as well as bringing the ball up. Full of confidence and went 81 minutes before he was subbed out for Raheem Edwards.
He also attempted two consecutive corners from the far side to create an olimpico, but was stopped by Louro and just missed over the crossbar.
Stats, Not The Scoreboard
All the statistics were for the Red Bulls in this match. A total of 17 shots were taken, eight of them were blocked, and two were on frame. 12 Corners earned, but the scoreboard was in favor of FC Cincinnati. One shot on goal, one converted. Everything went the Red Bulls’ way, but not the most important stat of the night.
“Of course, we are very disappointed. It was very clear after this Tuesday game from Inter Miami against Chicago, the situation was clear on Tuesday night. Then we had a meeting on Wednesday about the situation. Of course, we are very disappointed about that.
But what I can say today from our group, from the whole team, also from the subs, and also from the guys who didn’t play, for me, they showed really good character today because it’s not so easy when you go — when you concede the first goal, then it could be very, very difficult.
But the way we played today, in my opinion, was very well. We have to improve something, especially some in the first half, more aggressive runs in the box. And what I said at the beginning of the press conference it’s a little bit typical. This game was typical for our whole season: a lot of effort, a lot of intensity, and a lot of situations in the box, around the box.
And of course, this was our point the whole season that we scored two less goals in these situations. That’s the point, and some moments in our defense,” said Sandro Schwarz
Last Match of the 2025 Season is on Saturday, October 18th, as the New York Red Bulls travel to the Capital of Ohio to face the Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field in downtown Columbus
