EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings have revealed their leadership core for the 2025 NFL season, a dynamic blend of rising stars and seasoned veterans who will guide the team’s journey.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connell announced the captains on Thursday, selected through a team-wide vote that recognizes exceptional on-field performance and off-field leadership.

Three first-time captains will don the prestigious “C” this season, each bringing unique energy to the team:
Aaron Jones Sr.: Community Catalyst
After leaving Green Bay, Jones made an immediate impact in Minnesota. His debut season saw career-high rushing stats of 1,138 yards on 255 attempts, coupled with a genuine commitment to embracing his new teammates and the Twin Cities community.
J.J. McCarthy: Leadership Beyond Years
At just 22 and preparing for his first NFL start, McCarthy has already demonstrated leadership that belies his age. His emotional intelligence and communication skills have caught the attention of veterans, particularly in how he guides the offensive huddle and elevates his teammates.
Jonathan Greenard: Defensive Dynamo
Quickly establishing himself as a defensive leader, Greenard led the team with 12 sacks and 22 quarterback hits, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and proving his value both on and off the field.

Andrew DePaola: Special Teams Specialist
Captaining the special teams unit for the second consecutive season, DePaola has made history as the first long snapper to achieve three consecutive Pro Bowl selections.

Honoring a Legacy
The captains will be featured in the “Jim Marshall Vikings Captains Legacy” display at the Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center. This tribute honors Marshall, who served as team captain 14 times during the franchise’s first two decades before passing away in June at age 87.
