Young Canadians face Morocco, Uzbekistan, and England in final tune-ups before FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025
Toronto, ON — Canada Soccer has unveiled its Men’s U-17 National Team roster for a crucial 11-day training camp in Spain, where the young Canadians will face three international opponents in their final preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025. The camp, running from August 30 to September 10, features matches against Morocco (September 4), Uzbekistan (September 6), and England (September 9).
The training camp represents the final major preparation phase before Canada’s U-17 squad heads to Qatar for the World Cup, scheduled for November 3-27 in Doha. The young Canadians have been drawn into Group K alongside France, Chile, and Uganda, setting up what promises to be a challenging but exciting tournament debut.
Dominant Qualification Campaign
Canada’s path to Qatar was nothing short of spectacular. The team dominated the CONCACAF U-17 Qualifiers with a perfect record, winning all four matches while outscoring opponents by an incredible 26 goals and conceding zero goals from open play. This dominant performance showcased the potential that head coach Mike Vitulano believes can translate to success on the world stage.
“This camp in Spain is another key step in our preparation for the World Cup in November,” Vitulano explained. “Facing three high-quality opponents will test us and allow us to build on the progress we’ve made this year. We know this group can compete against top-tier opponents, and now the challenge is to show consistency in our performances.”
Recent International Experience
The squad recently gained valuable international experience at the U-17 Football Challenge in Albir, Spain, where they recorded a victory against the United States while falling to Japan and Morocco. These mixed results provided important lessons and highlighted areas for improvement ahead of the World Cup.
The upcoming friendlies against Morocco will offer Canada a chance for redemption against a team that previously defeated them, while matches against Uzbekistan and England will provide different tactical challenges and playing styles to prepare for the diverse competition they’ll face in Qatar.
Diverse Roster Reflects Canadian Soccer Development
The 23-player roster showcases the breadth of Canadian soccer development, featuring players from Major League Soccer academies, European clubs, and Canadian Premier League organizations. Notable inclusions feature players from prestigious European academies, including Leicester City FC’s William Daniels, Fulham FC’s Aidan Evans, and Feyenoord’s Kevin Khan.

The MLS representation is strong with players from LAFC, Toronto FC, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, CF Montréal, Orlando City SC, Real Salt Lake, and Atlanta United. This diversity reflects the growing global reach of Canadian soccer talent and the various pathways available to young players.
High Expectations and World Cup Ambitions
Head coach Vitulano, who also serves as Men’s Regional Excel Director, expressed confidence in his squad’s potential while acknowledging the work still ahead.
“This team has tremendous potential, and we’re confident they’ll raise the bar even higher,” he stated. The coach’s optimism stems from the team’s impressive qualifying campaign and their ability to compete against established soccer nations.
Group K Challenges Await
Canada’s World Cup group presents intriguing matchups. France arrives as one of the tournament favorites with their renowned youth development system, while Chile brings South American flair and technical ability. Uganda represents the African confederation and will provide a different style of play that could test Canada’s adaptability.
The November tournament in Qatar will mark another significant milestone for Canadian soccer development, following the success of the senior men’s team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the same country.
Final Preparations
The Spain training camp represents more than just friendly matches; it’s an opportunity for team chemistry building, tactical refinement, and mental preparation for the world stage. The coaching staff will use these 11 days to finalize their World Cup squad and establish the playing philosophy that will guide them through the tournament.
As Canada continues its ascent in international soccer across all age groups, this U-17 squad carries the hopes of a nation eager to see its young talent compete against the world’s best. The Spain camp will provide the final answers about whether this promising group can translate its CONCACAF dominance into World Cup success.
