Briggs was the first trade before the Jets played their Final preseason game against the Eagles
FLORHAM PARK, NJ.- The New York Jets brought in two Defensive Tackles to shore up the front seven to stop the run and attempt to take down the Quarterback. Before getting Brandon Phillips from the Vikings, the Jets originally made a deal with the Cleveland Browns to bring over Jowon Briggs. This was a need for the Jets to shore up that position to stop the run.
Briggs Was Surprised he was traded
When the Jets announced they made a trade to bring over Jowon Briggs from the Cleveland Browns with draft picks, it felt like the Jets were starting to improve themselves with their run-stopping defense. Bringing over a top talent like Briggs is going to be huge, and Briggs was very surprised that the Jets were going after him.
“I had no idea at all. Honestly, once I found out that day, it was a whirlwind of things. I had to make sure my wife and kids were straight. They are still packing up things at home and getting a lot of things done, but nothing but excitement in our household.”
What Type of Defensive Tackle is Briggs
When speaking tothe media, they asked Jowon Briggs what he can do as a Defensive Tackle and how he can take his talents to put the Jets into a positive position. But of course we all know what a Defensive Tackle brings, some have certain things with certain types of downs, or being a four down Tackle to stop the run,
“Just like any other D-Tackle, attack, penetrate, pass rush the whole nine. I feel like there is a great defense here, and add my spice and make it great. I just got out of my first meeting over here. It’s exciting, players and coaches were welcoming to me, a very welcoming environment for me.”
Briggs is welcomed by the Jets and Excited to be with Quinnen
When Jowon Briggs got a phone call from Aaron Glenn, he was excited to talk to him and couldn’t wait to fly over. One he arrived, he was welcomed very well by everyone. He’s also excited to be teamates with Quinnen Williams, to be paired up with him and learn from him, so he can excel as a player. He sounds like he’s ready to go.
“It’s awesome, Quinnen. He’s a baller, it’s great to be here and learn from another invested veteran who’s been here, and to get myself up to speed and challenge myself. He has a lot to give, and I am happy for the opportunity”
Briggs was Teammates with Sauce at Cincinnati
Jowon Briggs was with Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner at Cincinnati during their run to the Peach Bowl in 2020 when he transferred from Vrigina. He is happy to see Sauce’s success in the NFL within his first three seasons with the Jets and he’s excited to have a familiar face at the Jets so he can feel comfortable and go to him whenever he has to ask question.
