The Jets fell late in their final preseason Game against the Eagles at MetLife Stadium
East Rutherford, NJ.- The New York Jets finished off their final preseason game as they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles by a final of 19-17. After a poor start, they found a way to come back, but just fell short of earning a first down and to possibly attempt a field goal for the win. For Aaron Glenn, this was his chance to see which players would make the final cut and who he might keep for the practice squad for this season.
“There was no quit in our guys. That was probably one of the most exciting preseason games I’ve been a part of,” Glenn said with a smile. “There’s a number of things that I can talk about when it comes to mistakes, when it comes to penalties. I could talk about them for days. But the one thing that I am proud of about these men is they were resilient. They did not quit. They were excited on the sideline. And they tried to will themselves to win this game.
“And that’s something we can build off of.” said Aaron Glenn
Malachi Moore Looked Fabulous
Drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Jets, Malachi Moore was seen as a player who could do wonderful things on the defensive side of the ball as a defensive back from Alabama. He performed very well in this game against the Eagles. Not just on defense, but on special teams. After the Jets went three and out on their first drive, Moore attacked during the punt return and laid out the returner after catching the ball.
Then, on defense, Moore made an interception down the far sideline and found a way to make a big tackle behind the line of scrimmage to give the Eagles a two yard loss on the running attempt. The early feeling is that this man could be the steal of the draft after making those solid plays in their final preseason game of the month.
Jets Attempt a Comeback
After trailing the game 19-3, the Jets found ways to come back in the game. They made several strong running plays with a few dink and dunk passes, but progressed down the field to make their attempt to win the game memorable. But it fell short. A solid 19-yard rushing touchdown by Lawrance Toafili and converting on the 2-point Conversion to make it 19-11.
Then, the Jets, on a third down play, were given a chance for a rushing touchdown after a flag was thrown for pass interference inside the end zone on the Eagles. Then at the 1-yard line, Donovan Edwards powered himself to get the Touchdown, and the Jets went for the 2-point conversion again, but were stopped just in front of the goal line. While on the replay, it looked as if Edwards did break the plane of the goal line, the officials let the original call stand.
Armand Membou Hit With Bad Penalties
Rookie Right tackle Armand Membou played decently in this game, but unfortunately, his discipline cost the Jets two plays that could’ve given them a solid start to a drive, and forced them back from a 4th and one to a fourth and five. When the Jets got seven yards on a first down play in the first quarter, he was called for a hold, then on the fourth and one, Membou put the Jets five yards back due to a false start.
Even though it looked like the defense drew him, he was responsible for his actions and got the punt team to come on the field. Membou has looked good in the preseason, but as a rookie, he needs to be more disciplined and aware of what the defense will try to do to force him into making a mistake, and not put the Jets into penalty trouble.
My Takes on who will make the 53 Man Roster
While the Jets have already made cuts for the team, and must get down to the 53-man Roster by this coming Tuesday, for my opinion on who I think has earned a roster spot. Defensive Lineman Jay Tufele really shone in the first two preseason games with his hustle and work rate. Earned one and a half sacks, and quickly got to the ground on a strip sack fumble recovery inside the end zone in Green Bay for the Touchdown.
Defensive tackle Payton Page could be seen as a depth player for the Jets when he got his sack in the second quarter of the game against the Eagles. He found ways to battle and break through the offensive line. A big body that can also stop the run, but so far, he’s been good during the preseason. Possibly a Practice squad player for the team.
The six players the Jets waived are CB Mario Goodrich, T Samuel Jackson, TE Neal Johnson, WR Dymere Miller, DT Fatorma Mullbah, and WR Ontaria “Pokey” Wilson.
Very soon, Week one of the 2025 NFL Season will be upon us shortly for this new era of New York Jets football. The hope is that Aaron Glenn can turn things around and make this team competitive and disciplined on the field to put themselves into playoff contention and break the playoff drought. It won’t be easy against the defense of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the hope is that they can try.
