On Thursday, August 21st, the New York Red Bulls officially completed the transfer of Panama International Midfielder Rafael Mosquera from Panamanian club C.D. Plaza Amador and signed him to a first-team contract for three and a half years through the 2028 season with a club option in the 2029 season.
“Rafael [Mosquera] has shown great development with New York Red Bulls II, and we are excited to give him this opportunity with our first team,” said Sporting Director Julian de Guzman. “He has very good quality and has great potential to help our club accomplish our goals.”
The 20-year-old has been with their Red Bulls Two Team in MLS Next Pro these last three seasons. He has played in 44 matches, scoring ten goals with nine assists. This season with the two team, he has converted six goals and seven assists in 16 appearances. He came on as a substitute on the road at the Chicago Fire on July 26th, for his first career MLS appearance.
“We are happy to have Rafael [Mosquera] with our team, he has performed very well in his opportunities against Chicago and also Leagues Cup,” said Head Coach Sandro Schwarz. “He is a fast and skillful offensive player who will help in our style of play, and we are pleased to have him with us.”
Marcelo Morales, Andy Rojas, and now Rafael Mosquera are a part of the first team, and the hope is that these players can contribute in a big way to show all the supporters of this club that they can quickly be a part of something special with this club. If they do contribute with seven matches remaining in this season, it would be valuable. But if next season beckons, then they will be ready to go for the 2026 season.
