Teahupo’o, Tahiti – The legendary barrels of Teahupo’o are set to showcase women’s surfing at its finest as the Lexus Tahiti Pro Presented by I-SEA continues with the women’s Opening and Elimination Rounds called ON for Friday, August 8. Competition commences at 7:35 AM local time with pristine six-foot conditions delivering the world-class waves that make this Tahitian venue legendary.

Competition Schedule and Conditions

Start Time: 7:35 AM TAHT (Tahiti Time)
Wave Conditions: Six-foot range with pristine quality
Competition Status: Women’s Opening and Elimination Rounds ON
Standby: Women’s Quarterfinals and Men’s Round of 16
Live Coverage: WorldSurfLeague.com and WSL App

The day begins with the completion of the men’s Elimination Round before transitioning to the highly anticipated women’s competition, where some of surfing’s biggest names will battle the iconic barrels of Teahupo’o.

Men’s Elimination Round Finale

Heat 8: Marshall vs. Vaughan Showdown

San Diego’s Jake Marshall (USA) faces 2025 Championship Tour rookie Joel Vaughan (AUS) in the final heat of the men’s Elimination Round. Marshall aims to cap off his breakout year with a strong performance in Tahiti’s challenging conditions, while Vaughan looks to improve his seeding ahead of his second elite-level season.

This matchup represents the hunger of emerging talent against established experience, setting the tone for an explosive day of competition.

Women’s Opening Round: Star-Studded Lineups

Heat 1: Rookie Talent Meets Veteran Experience

Isabella Nichols (AUS) and Bettylou Sakura Johnson (HAW), both in exceptional form throughout 2025, face Championship Tour rookie Erin Brooks (CAN). Brooks, known for her barrel-riding prowess, could be the dark horse in Teahupo’o’s demanding conditions.

Heat 2: Historic Matchup Features Youngest CT Competitor

This heat promises to be historic as Kelia Gallina (PYF), the youngest person ever to compete on the Championship Tour, takes on current World No. 1 Molly Picklum (AUS) and veteran powerhouse Lakey Peterson (USA).

Gallina’s local knowledge of Tahitian waters could prove invaluable against two of the tour’s most accomplished competitors.

Heat 3: Local Wildcard Defends Home Waters

Defending event winner and local wildcard Vahine Fierro (FRA) returns to defend her title against Gabriela Bryan (HAW) and former World Champion Tyler Wright (AUS). Fierro’s intimate knowledge of Teahupo’o’s nuances makes her a formidable opponent on home turf.

Heat 4: Championship Contenders Clash

The marquee heat features Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks (USA) against reigning World Champion Caitlin Simmers (USA) and reigning World Junior Champion Luana Silva (BRA). This triple-threat matchup showcases the current and future stars of women’s professional surfing.

Marks’ proven relationship with Teahupo’o’s challenging conditions could give her an edge in this elite field.

Key Storylines to Watch

Molly Picklum’s Championship Lead

Current World No. 1 Molly Picklum enters the competition with momentum from her recent victory at the VIVO Rio Pro WSL event, where she scored an impressive 15.00 in the final and delivered the event’s highest single wave score of 8.17. Her confidence and form make her a serious title threat.

Local Knowledge Advantage

Vahine Fierro and Kelia Gallina bring invaluable local knowledge to the competition. Fierro’s defending champion status and Gallina’s historic achievement as the youngest CT competitor add compelling narratives to their respective heats.

Olympic and World Champions Collide

The presence of Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Marks and reigning World Champion Caitlin Simmers in the same heat creates an immediate championship-level showdown that could determine tournament momentum.
