Championship-winning coach brings decade of experience to strengthen Sirens coaching staff
NEW YORK – August 5, 2025 – The New York Sirens have announced the addition of Valérie Bois as assistant coach ahead of the 2025-26 Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) season, bringing over a decade of high-level coaching experience across both men’s and women’s hockey programs.
Championship Pedigree
Bois most recently served as head coach at Bishop’s University, where she led the Gaiters to their first U SPORTS National Championship in 2024-25 during just the program’s fourth season. Her tenure included two seasons as associate coach, followed by two seasons as head coach, demonstrating her ability to build successful programs from the ground up.
“Valérie is truly what you’d call a year-round, career coach,” said Sirens General Manager Pascal Daoust. “She has successfully held both head coach and assistant coach roles – winning multiple championships – across different levels, with both men’s and women’s teams, sometimes even within the same season.”
Extensive Coaching Background
The new assistant coach’s resume includes significant professional experience with Les Canadiennes de Montréal in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) during the 2018-19 season, helping advance the team to the Clarkson Cup final.
Her championship credentials extend to youth hockey, where she captured the 2013 Esso Cup as head coach of LHFDQ Nord – Canada’s Women’s U18 National Club Championship. Additionally, Bois contributed to a top-four finish at the 2022 Centennial Cup with Collège Français de Longueuil.
At the national level, Bois has been instrumental in Hockey Québec’s Program of Excellence, leading U18 teams to back-to-back National Championships in 2023 and 2024.
Cultural Alignment
“I’m thrilled to be joining the New York Sirens as an assistant coach,” said Bois. “This organization truly aligns with my values, especially in its commitment to building a strong team both on and off the ice. What drew me to the Sirens is their focus on creating a team culture rooted in respect, integrity, and growth.”
Coaching Staff Updates
Bois joins a coaching staff led by head coach Greg Fargo, alongside fellow assistant coaches Josh Sciba and Gordon Woodhall. The organization announced that assistant coaches Mike Sommer and Lauren Williams will not return for the 2025-26 campaign, with the team expressing gratitude for their contributions.
This coaching addition follows the team’s landmark contract extension with franchise player Sarah Fillier, who became the PWHL’s highest-paid player with her record-breaking two-year deal announced earlier today.
Looking Ahead
The appointment strengthens the Sirens’ preparation for their second PWHL season as the league continues to build momentum following record-breaking attendance and recognition as Sports Business Journal’s Sports Breakthrough of the Year in 2024.
