Brazil Outlasts Colombia in a Spectacular Copa America Femenina Final

Excitement, Drama, Thrills, and Chills as the 2025 Copa America Femenina final had everything you wanted when two opponents are going for the big trophy. From the opening whistle till the end of regulation, throughout extra time, and when it couldn’t be settled, then, it went to penalty kicks. After everything that happened, somehow a winner was crowned as Brazil went the distance against Colombia, five to four in the shootout, going three all through regulation, four all after extra time.

In the penalty kick shootout, it went to seven rounds. Brazil went first, both sides converted their kicks in the first round, but Angelina’s kick was saved while Marcela Restrepo converted her’s. Third round Gutierres for Brazil converted her’s while Manuela Pavi’s spot kick sailed over the crossbar. In the fourth round, Brazil took the lead when Mariza scored, then Washington Spirtis Leicy Santos was saved.

For Brazil to win it, they needed Marta to convert, but she kicked it right into Katherine Tapia’s body, diving to her left. Linda Caicedo converted her spot kick to level the contest at three apiece. To Extra Kicks we go, as both sides converted their sixth spot kick, but in the seventh round, Luany scored for Brazil, and unfortunately, Jorelyn Carabali was saved by Lorena to win the shootout.

In regulation, Colombia took the lead three times. As they had the ball, they passed it around all over Brazil’s end, and when it finally got to that scoring chance, it was a loud scream from the fans. Mayra Ramirez received the ball inside the area and quickly passed it toward Linda Caicedo as she took the shot, beating the keeper to her right, as it looks like she was caught off guard in the 25th minute.

Colombia would give Brazil a chance at equalizing the match, as they gave away a penalty inside first half stoppage time. Jorelyn Carabali of Colombia tangled up with Giovana of Brazil inside the area. As both women were getting up, Carabali used herself as a battering ram and launched into the side of Carabali’s head and jaw on her right side. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty to Orlando Pride’s Angelina, as she converted it in the ninth minute after four minutes were added on.

The rest of the goals in regulation time came late in the match. Colombia took the lead again, but they got help from their opponents. Lorena Bedoya Durango tried to pass the ball back to her goalkeeper Kansas City Current’s, Lorena, but missed her. The ball harmfully rolled inside the near post and completely over the goal line in the 69th minute.

Brazil’s second equalizer was a fantastic shot. The ball was looped from the far side toward the near side, as Amanda Gutierres patiently waited for the ball to drop. She chested it down, took a step toward the net, and unleashed an amazing left footer that took a deflection off a defender, and the ball went toward the inside of the far post as they scored again in the 80th minute.

Colombia retook the lead, again. Ramirez intercepted the pass in midfield and quickly developed into an attacking run. It became a two on one. Caicedo received the ball on the left side, then made a quick pass back to Ramirez. When they got closer to the net, Ramirez took the shot and scored inside the near post in the 88th minute.

Then it was the Marta show for Brazil, as the Orlando Pride’s magic woman delivered two sensational goals in second half stoppage time, and in extra time. Brazil frantically tried to find the third equalizer to force extra time. It finally came to fruition when the ball went back toward the far side and away from the area. Marta just took two steps and smashed it from distance.

Her second goal was amazing as Angelina was attacking down the far side. When she picked her head up and saw Marta inside the area, she gave a long looping ball that fell right into Marta’s path, and somehow she was able to fake out the keeper as Marta missed the ball with her head, but used her right foot to flick the ball past the keeper and in for the lead at the 105th minute.

But Colombia got an equalizer to level things up and then force a penalty kick shootout. They earned a free kick about five yards outside the area. Santos took the set piece and delivered a fantastic ball that smashed the upper far 90 and all of her teammates ran toward her, including those warming up and from the bench, to celebrate he amazing equalizer in the 115th minute.

What an amazing finish for this 2025 Copa America Femenina Final. Two teams battling hard and giving everyone from South America a frantic final that will be talked about for many years to come, or for the next four years when this tournament returns for the women’s national teams of CONMEBOL. All of us got our money’s worth and another continental title for those women wearing all blue and neon green kits that Samba in our hearts.
