The New York Jets took the day off on Wednesday, so they returned to Training Camp on July 31st. They got back to work and put in another session to prepare themselves for the 2025 season. Right now, some great stories are being told at Florham Park, as the players are enjoying working on their craft and having a healthy session out there from certain players and coaches.
COORDINATORS PRAISING ONE ANOTHER
There has always been a feeling from the fans and others that the offensive coordinators are not doing the job they are supposed to do for a full season, as they continue not to put up multiple touchdowns and earn multiple points in each and every game. This feels like hiring Tanner Engstrand was the right thing to do, from Aaron Glenn.
While the Lions lost their number one O.C., Glenn took away their number two O.C. and made him number one here on the Jets. The one who has shown praise and enjoyed the battles against his defense is Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilkes, has really been impressed and the other way around with Engstrand.
“We talk about it all the time as a defensive staff — what Tanner is giving us, I think, is outstanding, because it’s getting us to think and communicate and talk [about] the things that we see. I thought that communication was good down there. We had one where we didn’t really get a peel and we should have, but other than that, we were fine.” Said Wilkes.
NICK FOLK CONVERTING FIELD GOALS FROM DISTANCE
Bringing back Nick Folk was a no-brainer, as the Jets needed a veteran place kicker to rely on when they needed a big kick to take the lead or to win the game. So far in today’s practice, Folk was able to knock out all six of his attempts and nailed two of them from 50 yards or longer. He’s been consistent and dependable since his first stint with the Jets.
OLU FASHANU IMPROVING IN THE RUN
When Fashanu was drafted last year, the priority was to keep the Quarterbacks’ blindside protected and to ensure no one would break through the offensive line. Pass Protection was always his strong suit, but the hope was to see him do well when the run game was active. Now, in this training camp, Fashanu has turned out to be improving himself, and he’s doing that in the run game.
We are still early in training camp and very soon the pre-season games will be upon us, but until then, we can enjoy some of the positives that the players are working on to improve their play both on offense and defense. Are they polished yet? No, they aren’t, but the hard work right now is showing. Under Aaron Glenn, we are seeing common sense training, but the hope is to see it transition to consistent winning.
