After the first few days of wearing no pads in training camp, everything got turned up as head coach Aaron Glenn got all his players to put the pads on as he wanted to see how his team was going to handle real physical plays, both on offense and defense. This is the time to see how his team can handle this type of pressure and better evaluate who will or won’t make the 53-man roster for the regular season.
“You try to create an identity, and you start to figure out who’s going to be a part of that identity,” Glenn said. … “They all know [the physicality] is part of who we want to be, and the good thing is, they look forward to it. Every one of those guys that’s in the locker room looks forward to it, and they want it, too. And to me, that’s what I’m happy about more than anything.”
PLAYERS ARE HAPPY TO PLAY PHYSICALLY
The Players are enjoying playing physically in practice as they believe it gives them a better feel of how the games will be played. They know what to expect now that both sides can battle each other and show what they have learned when the games are for real.
The feeling of being tackled and making the tackle is important to have happen right away, as the players are looking for new direction and wanting to be informed of what to do and how to do it. As of right now, camp is going well.
ALL IN THE DETAILS AND DISCIPLINE
While there have been some strong moments during training camp, Glenn saw moments where they had penalties and were undisciplined penalties. He wants to erase that from their minds and play better. As he continues to tell everyone, too many penalties will cost you football games.
WILL McDONALD IS A PROBLEM
Last season, Will McDonald exploded with ten and a half sacks in his second season. Since coming into training camp, he has been a problem for the offensive line like rookie Armand Membou. While he still has that spin move in his arsenal to get to the quarterback, he’s now bull rushing and catching Membou out of position.
JUSTIN FIELDS RETURNS
Justin Fields made his return to the practice field, but in a limited capacity, after suffering a dislocated toe. While he looked good with a short pass to Garrett Wilson and a nice long throw to rookie Tight End Mason Taylor, Glenn is well aware he needs to have him for the regular season in one piece and not push him.
Right now, training camp is moving along smoothly, and then the Jets’ first preseason game will be coming soon when they take a trip to famed Lambeau Field and the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, August 9th, to get their first taste of action when they aren’t battling against themselves.
