Wrexham AFC is delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee, pending international clearance and registrations.
O’Brien, 26, arrives at the Racecourse Ground on a contract running through to the end of the 2027/28 season.
With top-flight experience at Nottingham Forest and more than 150 appearances across multiple EFL Championship clubs—including Huddersfield Town, Middlesbrough, and Swansea City—O’Brien adds significant quality and depth to Phil Parkinson’s squad.
“I’m absolutely buzzing. It’s been a long time coming, but to be here is great,” said O’Brien. “The last couple of years has been a whirlwind for me and my family, but to sign a long-term contract and find somewhere I can call home is a great feeling. After speaking to everyone here, it’s a Club with a lot of ambition. I want to be part of that journey, and take Wrexham to where they want to be.”
O’Brien’s career began at Huddersfield Town, where he was named Academy Player of the Year in 2017/18. After making his professional debut on loan at Bradford City—netting his first senior goal in the process—he went on to be named Huddersfield’s Player of the Season during his first whole Championship campaign.
He moved to Nottingham Forest in 2022, featuring in the Premier League, before embarking on loan spells with DC United, Los Angeles FC, Middlesbrough, and Swansea City. Last season, he tallied 16 league appearances for the Swans, scoring against Plymouth and contributing to an eleventh-place finish.
On the arrival, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson commented:
“I’m delighted to welcome Lewis to the Club. He’s a player with a lot of experience at this level and will be a great addition to the group. We’re looking forward to working with him.”Answers from O’Brien’s Conference:
“I want to help take the Club to where it wants to be.”
