After Kyler Murray signed with Arizona, Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell received congratulations from Chargers owner Dean Spanos: “Your deal helps us for our QB next year,” followed by Bidwell’s reply acknowledging he was “resolved to keep the guaranteed relatively ‘low'” because “Cleveland really screwed things up.”
While the arbitrator ultimately dismissed the NFLPA’s case, finding insufficient evidence of an actual agreement between teams, the ruling clearly stated that “the NFL Management Council, with the blessing of the Commissioner, encouraged the 32 NFL Clubs to reduce guarantees in veterans’ contracts.”
