Queens, NY– The FIFA Club World Cup is nearing its conclusion with at least one unexpected finalist. Whether the tournament was a success or not will probably be discussed long after Sunday’s final. The reigning European champions have met expectations and completely dominated the competition from the start. Luis Enrique has managed to keep the winning formula intact and has rightfully earned a spot in the final. The biggest surprise, however, came with the second finalist. When everything was set to showcase a South American team in the final, Chelsea FC switched the script in the semifinals.
In any case, the final will certainly be one-sided. PSG will aim to break down Chelsea’s defense and compact lines. With players like Dembele and Vitinha, and having Donnaumma in goal, it can give Luis Enrique’s squad a sense of confidence. Chelsea, however, has assets that could turn things around for them if needed. Moises Caicedo is the centerpiece for Chelsea’s build-up. Since he’s not necessarily an attacking midfielder, he can move around with a certain freedom as long as possession is in his favor. The final and best pieces with Chelsea are Enzo Fernandez, Cucurella, and Cole Palmer—three players with high attacking characteristics who can build counterattacks with and without the ball.
Should Chelsea execute their tactics correctly, they can challenge PSG. However, this will most likely be decided by resistance levels. Given the scheduling conflicts, the weather will be a determining factor in the final scoreline. Enzo Fernandez just spoke about how complex it is to play under the current weather conditions. While PSG has kept a low profile regarding the issue, they have been vocal about the need for rest. However, their main objective remains to win. Can Chelsea stop PSG and win the first multiple-team edition of the Club World Cup? They won it all in 2021. PSG has already captured: Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the UEFA Champions League. This marks the first time PSG has won a continental treble. Or does PSG become the first team to conquer four trophies in play in a single season?
Owners’ Prediction: PSG 1 – 3 Chelsea
