Switzerland– At the start of Group C in the 2025 Women’s Euros, it would be a Scandinavian clash between Denmark and Sweden at the Stade de Geneva. While this was a strong match for the defensive side of the ball, it would take one goal to give Sweden the full three points, as they took the final score of a goal to nil after one game.
The lone goal came in the 55th minute, Sweden on the Danish side of the pitch. A nice give and go between Filippa Angeldahl and Kosovare Asllani at the far side of the pitch. When Asllani sprang Angeldahl into a quick attacking run, Angeldahl took a hard diagonal shot that tucked inside the back post, and Sweden would take the lead for good.

Both goalkeepers were fantastic in this match, making strong saves. Maja Bay Ostergaard of Denmark & Jennifer Falk of Sweden. Ostergaard had a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Sweden had a free kick just a few yards outside the area. It was taken by Angeldahl, as she was looking for the upper far 90, that’s when Ostergaard made the right handed save to parry it over the corner bar.

In the 81st minute, Woodwork was called on to help Sweden keep the lead. Pernille Harder attacked down the near side and made a nice attacking run. When she got toward the area, she unleashed a fantastic strike that hit the crossbar, but the rebound went to a Danish Teammate, and her shot was on frame, but was grabbed by Falk.
This was an excellent match to see both of these sides going after it, and showing why the game has been improving in European Women’s football. These Scandinavian sides continue to show why they are working hard and showing their quality on the pitch. Now we wait and see what happens in the next Group stage match in Group C later in the day.

Before the match started, both teams held a moment of silence for the untimely deaths of Diogo Jota & his brother Andre Silva, who passed away during a car crash in Spain while on vacation after winning the UEFA Nations League for Portugal.
