The United States U-17 women’s national team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Morocco 4-0 at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India, to secure their place in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup knockout rounds.
Playing in humid conditions with persistent rain before 3,578 fans, the Americans faced a Morocco side making their historic debut at any FIFA Women’s World Cup level. Despite only needing a draw to advance, the U.S. showed no mercy against the defensive-minded Moroccans.
The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Charlotte Kohler fired home from 16 yards after a brilliant buildup involving Gisele Thompson and Rebimbas. The Americans continued pressing despite heavy rainfall, hitting the crossbar in the 29th minute.
The second half saw a goal barrage as Samantha Smith opened her international account with a sliding finish. Kohler completed her brace in the 73rd minute with a clinical one-touch strike, before Smith secured her brace in the 81st minute for her second international goal.
The comprehensive victory sets up a knockout stage clash with Nigeria on Friday, October 21st at 7:00 AM ET.
