WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point made a statement against a Big East opponent, taking down UConn 4–1 with a dominant run through singles play.
After dropping the doubles point, the Black Knights flipped the match with three straight-set singles wins and a clincher that showcased depth across the lineup. With the victory, Army improved to 5–2 on the season and 5–0 at home.
Doubles: UConn Grabs the Early Edge
UConn struck first by taking two of the three doubles matches.
- At No. 1, UConn’s Ela Platenikova/Victoria Matos defeated Isabella Brilliant/Madison Smith 6–4.
- At No. 3, UConn’s Cameron Didion/Isabella Asenov topped Emma Sy/Olivia Manson 6–4.
Army’s win came at No. 2, where Emily Ruckno/Olivia Mellynchuk were leading Chloe Lomans/Madison McLeod 5–0 when the match went unfinished.

Singles: Army Takes Control
Once singles began, Army’s response was immediate.
Madison Smith set the tone at No. 1, rolling through the first set and holding off a second-set push to beat Ela Platenikova 6–0, 7–5.
At No. 3, Emma Sy delivered one of the cleanest performances of the day, defeating Victoria Matos 6–2, 6–2.
Olivia Mellynchuk kept the momentum going at No. 5 with a 6–2, 6–0 win over Madison McLeod, putting Army firmly in control of the team score.
Clincher
Army secured the match at No. 6, where Stacey Samonte closed out Isabella Asenov in straight sets, 6–1, 7–6.
With the team result decided, the remaining matches were halted.
